The State’s Minister for Water Supply and Municipal Administration K.P.Munusamy announced in the Assembly on Tuesday that the Corporation will be setting aside Rs. 1.8 crores to install monitoring devices to check water supply in 50 spots across Chennai.
At the moment, Metro Water’s field staff members collect samples every day from domestic connections that are connected to the water distribution system. This can cease to happen with the new monitoring device.
The device will check the quality of the water based on turbidity, residual chlorine and PH levels. Sensors will then transmit the data to central control room. The system will also minimize sewage leakage, especially in the monsoon season.
