For many years, Chennai city had witnessed many conventional crimes like assault, robbery, theft, murder etc. In the last few years of time in Chennai, many cyber based crimes have been taking place and they have caught the attention of many.
The latest information is these cyber crimes have now overtaken the conventional crimes and this was confirmed by none other than the police commissioner of Chennai, Mr. Viswanathan. He spoke about how the number of cyber crimes has been increasing every day.
It is important to note that an awareness campaign CD was launched by the police commissioner, Mr. Viswanathan and by Mr. M.M. Murugappan, executive chairman of Murugappa Group. Point is the launch was a part of ‘Good Netizen Good Citizen’ initiative of Murugappa Group in association with the Greater Chennai police. The major goal of this campaign is to raise social awareness on the responsible use of social media and internet.
The Chennai city police commissioner, Mr. Viswanathan expressed his thoughts after the video launching and spoke about how young girls and women must know about the dangers of sharing their personal information and pictures online. He mentioned about how the people should be careful regarding their financial information, passwords, pin numbers etc. It must be taken into account that these days many people have interactions and friendships over social media without seeing each other or meeting in persons etc.
According to Mr. Viswanathan, cyber crimes in the social media or in the other online spaces are increasing when compared to the conventional crimes such as robberies, murders etc. He shed light on how these cyber crimes would only increase in the future and how awareness is the only solution. He explained about how only for the good purposes social media must be used and how the people must not share unverified information.
Executive chairman of the Murugappa Group, Mr. Murugappan spoke about the need to be responsible and good netizens which is similar to the need to be a good and responsible citizen. He added that the inherent internal discipline could go astray when the social media is used irresponsibly.
