The Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital has said that 60% of the women of 8,000 people who come for general checkups in a year suffer from diabetes.Speaking to the press, one of the doctors said, ‘Chennai will continue to be the diabetic capital if en-ou¬gh awareness is not created among the public. Among the people who come for a check-up, many have preliminary stages of diabetes and men are found to have hypertension.

‘We receive a good number of people for our quality check-up. Now¬here in the city will you get a head-to-toe check-up at such a low price. The cost-effective, general body check-up has attracted high-profile bureaucrats and politicos who say they regularly turn up for a general body check-up at GH. At a time when private hospitals charge up to Rs 8,000 for a complete check up, GH charges only Rs 250, which is one of the reasons for its popularity.’
