A major tourist spot in Chetpet in Chennai is an eco-park that is spread over 16 acres of land. This eco-park maintained by the TN Fisheries Development Corporation is now making news.
It is well known that in this amazing eco-park in Chetpet there are many recreational facilities such as angling etc and many people come here with their family and friends to have fun and relaxation.
It is now brought out that this eco-park has got face lift now. Point to be noted is this eco-park started losing its popularity as the pond became dry due to the absence of rains. In the month of June in 2019 the number of visitors dropped to 5500. This created issues in maintenance of the eco-park.
De-silting works were carried out in this super lake in Chetpet by the TN Fisheries Development Corporation. Bund strengthening works were also done here. The eco-park has got back its glory after the de-silting activity and this was as per Mr. G. Sameeran, director of fisheries. He threw light on how in the month of June this lake did not have water and parched bed was exposed.
He added that after de-silting the groundwater table was replenished and there is 4 feet of water now due to recent rains. It must be noted that out of total water area of 6.10 acre, more than 1 feet of silt and mud was removed from an area of 3.66 acres. Mr. Sameeran concluded that a total of 4500 cubic metres of silt was dredged and was used for strengthening of bunds.
It is important to mention that earlier illegal sewage was let out into this lake in Chetpet through storm water drains but this issue has been rectified now. Point is the in-house waste water is being treated with the help of 50000 KLD sewage treatment plant. An official belonging to the eco-park was delighted about the increase in the number of visitors now.
It is superb to mention that between 19th April 2019 and 19th May 2019 17,000 people including 4615 children made their presence felt in this eco-park. The revenue collected was Rs 354,725. This was as per the official data.
Information is in the month of July the number of visitors reduced with 5500 visitors visiting and the revenue amount collected was Rs 121,635.The number of people visiting the eco-park increased in August after the de-silting works and the revenue got was Rs 338,140 from 16000 visitors.
