The central minister C. V. Gadkari has informed that the state governments may decide regarding reducing the recent steep penalties announced for violations of traffic rules and regulations.

The revised Motor Vehicle was passed in several states. Subsequently, the traffic police have gone all-out more vigilant vehicle-checks.

Stiff penalties are being imposed on those violating traffic rules and regulations.

In Delhi, a penalty of Rs. 1.41 Lakhs has been imposed on a lorry owner. In Odisha, a penalty of Rs. 70000 has been imposed on a lorry driver.

Protesting against such steep penalties, a person indulged in setting fire to a jeep.

The state government of Gujarat has reduced the recent penalties rate by 50%.

IN the above scenario, the central minister Gadkari has informed:

‘The state governments may decide on reducing the penalties. It may be noted that these stiff penalties are imposed just for preventing accidents and not as a means for additional revenue! IN most accidents, it is the youth who lose lives. The penalties levied in this regard go only to the respective state governments and not the central government.’
