Free admission for the Traditional Food Fair

The Tamil Nadu State Government Minister for Health, Vijayabhaskar informed that the admission would be free for the ‘Traditional Indian Food Fair’ to be organized at the Chennai Metro City Island Grounds.

The State Government Department of Food Safety and the National Urban Life3line Movement are jointly organizing a traditional food fair titled ‘Madarasa Pattinam Virundhu - Vanga, Rasikkalam, Rusikkalam’ (Traditional feast from Madras Pattinam - come - taste and enjoy!) at the Chennai Metro City Islands Grounds for 3 days starting from tomorrow Friday, 13th September until Sunday, 15th December.

The ‘Brand’ and ‘Logo’ for this event was released in a special event by the state government Health Minister Vijayabhaskar and the Secretary Peela Rajesh. The Minister shared on this occasion:

‘This special fair - Madarasaattinam feast festival’ is organised with the main objective of creating awareness about our traditional food among the public. The Department of Food Safety has taken various initiatives to give priority to the high-quality traditional food. In order that the benefits of these initiatives and actions reach the public, this traditional Food Fair is being organised.

The purpose of the food fair is that the traditional food items must not be forgotten and the benefits of these items must reach the public.

Further, the traditional food items are essential to include in our diet especially in order not to be affected by non-infectious diseases such as cancer, etc. The people must avoid consuming snack items.
  • Admission for this Food Fair is free. Special coaching is also arranged for recipes for preparing unadulterated items.
  • The entire ‘Self-help’ groups are participating.
  • More than 150 stalls are being set up.
  • Further, training will also be given to become aware of the types of adulteration in food items.’
