Chennai city is full of traffic congestion is well known. Inspite of the presence of traffic signal plus traffic police, heavy traffic congestion occurs in many places in Chennai.

The Vanuvamnpet junction on the Medavakkam High Road does not have a traffic signal or traffic police personnel to regulate the traffic there. This has been creating chaos at that place every evening.  It is important to note that many vehicles proceeding towards Nanganallur or Madipakkam from IRR or Jawaharlal Nehru Road cross this important junction regularly.

Frequent traffic snarls have been reported in this place due to the motorists travelling on the wrong side. It must be taken into account that those travelling towards west from Nanganallur via NSK Road use Chidambaranar First Street adjacent to Vanuvampet Church to reach inner ring road or IRR.

It was later brought out by a resident of Lakshmi Nagar that inspite the road signs clearly indicating that travelling in the direction was prohibited the motorists, cars and vans violate traffic rules. They proceed on the wrong direction leading to congestion. He spoke about how the traffic policemen were present on the spot only during the weekends when more crowds go to church. On the working days, the situation is totally different as there would be no traffic policemen to regulate the traffic.

It is revealed that the works of CMRL have worsened the chaotic traffic situation here. It was pointed out by a Chennai traffic police officer that the traffic violators would be caught as frequent checks were carried out.
