Tragedy hit when 12 bogies of the Muzaffarpur – Yeshwantpur Express derailed killing 1 person and injuring 33 others. The injured included 2 children and 6 women. Train no. 15228 derailed at Chitheri railway station near Arakkonam early Wednesday morning.
The derailed bogies included a pantry car, three 3-tier AC coaches and one 2-tier AC coach. The accident occurred at 5.30 am. The train had left Bihar’s Muzzafarpur on Monday and arrived at Chennai Central on Wednesday morning.
The injured were sent to Government Vellore Medical College Hospital in Adukkamparai, Arakkonam’s Government Hospital and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai. Many trains have been cancelled due to the accident.
