There is a power deficit of more than 3000 MW in Tamil Nadu as two units of the Tuticorin Thermal Power Station went offline and Unit 2 of the Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS) shut down after a glitch in the generator unit.
Said MAPS director T.J. Koteeswaran, ‘The reactor of unit 2 in Kalpakkam is in cold shutdown. The first unit is producing 170 MW as usual… It is likely to take at least a month for the unit to be operational again.’
‘Wind generation has picked up. Windmills generated 1,000MW on Monday. Wind power generation has been going up from 100MW to 1,000MW. We hope this will narrow the demandsupply gap… There had been no increase in power cuts’, said a TNEB official.
