Tirupathi Lord Venkateswara temple to be closed on 26th December

As the solar eclipse occurs on the morning of 26th December (Thursday), the Thirumalai-Tirupathi Devasthanam (TTD) has announced that the famous Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirupathi will remain closed for 13 hours.

The solar eclipse is scheduled to occur from 8.08 AM to 11.06 Am on 26th December (Thursday).  It is an ages-old tradition to keep the temples closed 6 hours before the onset of the eclipse.

Accordingly, the Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirupathi will be closed at 11.00 PM on the night of 25th December until 12.00 Noon on 26th December.

Subsequently, the temple will be opened and the rituals of  ‘Punniyakavachanam’ and Sudhi (cleansing of the temple after the negative occasion of the solar eclipse) will be performed and the temple corridors will be opened by 2.00 PM to allow the devotees in.

TTD has cancelled the usual events under the group of ‘Arjitah Sevais’of Thiruppavadai, Kalyana Utsavam, ‘Oonjal’ Sevai, Arjitha Brahmotsavam scheduled usually to be performed on 26th morning.

As the solar eclipse, this time is occurring during the half-yearly vacation period for the school/college students, TTD has reminded the devotees to note the temple-closure if planning a visit!
