Operation of Pongal special buses from today (10th Jan) A/c buses in Chennai city

The special buses on the occasion of Pongal holidays are being operated from today (Friday, 10th January).

It is traditional for a large number of Chennai residents to visit their native places for celebrating Pongal! On this occasion, special buses are being operated from Chennai to various places.

The reservation counters for this is set to commence from today at Koyambedu bus terminus. Transport Minister M R Vijayabhaskar inaugurated yesterday (9th January).

The Pongal Special Buses will start from Koyambedu Bus Terminus, Tambaram Sanatorium, Tambaram Railway Station Bus Stop, Madhavaram New Bus Terminus, Poonamallee Corporation Bus Terminus, and KK Nagar Chennai Metro Transport Corporation Bus Terminus. The buses will be operated from today (Friday, 10th January) to 14th January for 5 days.

17 Reservation counters have been set up for this. Special buses have been arranged from Chennai Metro City to other cities.

The temporary bus stands will operate from 10th January to 14th January. A total of 30,120 special buses are being operated for the Pongal Holiday travel.

Another 25,877 buses are to be operated for the return travel after the celebration of Pongal festival.

Meanwhile, as a part of the Pongal special celebrations, the Transport Department has decided to operate 48 air-conditioned buses in Chennai Metro during this 1st Phase.
