Many people visiting the highly popular Marina beach in Chennai get excited about seeing the seawater and they go swimming. This has led to many incidences of drowning. Hereafter, this drowning issue would not be there.

On Wednesday, 29th January, a rescue service station with a special force of 50 commandos was inaugurated at the beach and it grabbed the attention of many. There are some life-saving measures present and the commands have been trained in these measures for the purpose of handling emergencies. It is worth mentioning that this is the first-of-its-kind facility on this beach.

To rescue people who get washed away by the tidal waves, 50 personnel have been trained exclusively and they are still undergoing training. This was according to fire officials.

On the Besant Road near Marina, this rescue unit has come up. The commandos turned lifeguards are involved in training because they have to get well versed with life-saving procedures plus they need to get familiarized with the safety equipment. For the sake of preventing harm to themselves during the rescue operations, the commands would use personnel life safety equipment.

It is now said that the rescue unit has got emergency oxygen cylinders for the victims who have trouble in breathing plus life jackets of polyester fabric stuffed with foam that would keep a person buoyant in water, ring buoys, safety equipment for lifeguards. To make the victim’s float, this would be kept around the victim’s waist or under armpits.

Another piece of equipment that is part of the rescue unit is the rescue tube made of high-density foam and it could be used in multiple ways. For those victims who have suffered injuries in water or unconscious and not able to support themselves, backboard or spine board would be available.
