If you have visited Santhosh Nagar off Poonamllee High Road in Egmore, then you would have seen the existing structures there getting demolished!!
This demolition work has been carried out for the construction of a 14 storey building. It is now said that this MSB or multi-storey building would accommodate 560 families belonging to the economically weaker sections. In the existing tenements, there were 272 families and 239 were encroacher who had made the locality their home.
New construction would provide tenements to them. This was according to an official belonging to TNSCB. The area of each new unit would be 405 sq ft and it would have a kitchen, bedroom and toilet. There would be ceramic tile flooring in the houses and housing complex would also have an elevator. An amount of Rs 12.5 lakhs is being spent on the construction of each unit. Information collected is it would be a single tower of 40 units on each floor. By the year 2021, the construction work is likely to be over.
Under the department of housing and urban development, TNSCB has been functioning is known. It is now revealed that TNSCB would offer units to the beneficiaries after payment of 10% of the construction cost.
