According to Thanjai Bharadwaj, a leading astrologer in the city, there are four things that should not be done during the period of Agni Nakshatram. ‘Due to the extreme heat and radiation from the sun, people must desist from planting any seedlings, saplings or trees during the period, as there would not be enough water to nurture them’, he says.
‘Sishyas should not seek initiation into the scriptures by their gurus, as they would find it difficult to recite the five lakh slokas as part of the ritual. Their throats will become dry and parched and it will be a wonder if they are able to complete even a lakh slokas... Any temple works are also prohibited, as the stones would radiate a lot of heat, making it difficult for the labourers. It is also a strict no-no as far as cutting wells or ponds are concerned… Since digestive functions of the body also would be affected, people should eat natural foods and increase their intake of liquids.’
