To avoid overcrowding, MWD increase water supply to 700 MLD

While fetching water from the tanker lorrys in Chennai, the Corona virus has spread for many persons now. This was revealed by Chennai Corporation.

It is now said that the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board or CMWSSB or metro water has decided to increase the water supply from 650 MLD to 700 MLD.

Municipal administration minister, Mr. S.P. Velumani, held a meeting on Wednesday and it was decided in the meeting that the water supply would be increased. It is brought out that as many as 1000 streets in Chennai would get piped water supply.

As per the department release it was clear that 7.6 TMC of Krishna water has been received and the city lakes have storage of 6.3 TMC. This would last till the end of 2020. In about 1000 streets in Chennai, water is being supplied using tanker lorrys and on Wednesday Mr. Velumani instructed MWD to supply water to these 1000 streets.

By this, unwanted crowding would be avoided and there would be social distancing. From Thursday, 7th May 2020, the additional water supply would begin and it would be there till the end of 2020.

Truth is many persons contacted Corona virus from crowds at Ambattur when they were standing for getting water from the water tankers. Mr. Velumani mentioned about how the Corporation of Chennai must create quarantine facilities to shelter contacts of infected persons. He explained about the importance of water, toilet and other facilities and said these must be arranged first and then the persons must be given shelters at quarantined facilities.
