The weathermen are now busy predicting the weather in Chennai. It must be taken into account that the south west monsoon that had arrived in Kerala has been responsible for some respite from the scorching heat in TN. There would be some rains in the northern parts of TN including Chennai.

In the next 48 hours, the weathermen have predicted that Chennai would receive light to moderate rainfall and it would be due to the convergence of sea breeze with the westerly winds.

Information gathered is on Monday many parts of western Chennai and neighbouring districts such as Ambattur, Ayyapakkam and Red hills as well as Kancheepuram recorded rainfall. It has been brought out by IMD that the condition of the sky is likely to be cloudy with light to moderate rains in some places.

Chennai city is likely to have maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature of 29 degree Celsius in the next 48 hours. Between 2nd June and 5th June 2020, thunderstorm with lightning has been predicted in some isolated places across TN by the weather agency.

Onset of southeast monsoon was announced by IMD on Monday and it has been revealed by its regional inference that the southwest monsoon has set in most parts of Kerala, Mahe and parts of TN from 1st June..

Excessive rainfall has been predicted in the state of TN during June to September monsoon time. This was as per all global weather models. Chennai as well as the coastal part of TN has been included in this beginning with the month of June when the rainfall would be due to wind convergence.

The fact is Chennai city receives much of its rainfall (average 867.8 mm rainfall) in the October to December northeast monsoon time. Important point is Chennai records half of that rainfall between June and September months.
