Last date for application for RTE seats extended

Posted on: 29/May/2013 11:33:33 AM
The deadline for the application for school admissions under RTE (Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education) has been extended by two weeks. Parents from disadvantaged sections of society may approach a school near their homes for admissions for their children at the entry level. The application must be submitted with the necessary documents thats have been signed off by their district Chief Educational Officer (CEO). An official press release said that the application are available at the CEOs office without a charge.

Although the admissions process should have been completed by May 20th, many schools have not accepted application under this category siting reasons such as `lack of clarity`. There has been confusion about the process among the school management and the parents alike. According to reports, one of the major points was the actual entry level classes. While officials say it is LKG, schools prefer it to be Std. 1. This, coupled with the ignorance of the parents, has resulted in many reserved seats not been taken. For instance, only 1256 applications were submitted in Kancheepuram district`s matriculation schools for the 4389 seats. Officials hope that the extension of the date would help in better understanding of the system.
