If you are a savings / another account holder with the country’s premier Public Sector Bank, the State Bank of India (SBI), you can use the debit/credit card for withdrawing cash (though ATMs), or making payment after purchase, or carrying out online transactions. Note that there is a maximum limit for cash withdrawals through credit / debit cards. Here are a few details regarding the extent of using the credit / debit cards for shopping, etc.
Presently, the State Bank of India (SBI) is issuing 7 kinds of debit cards to its customers. Each one has a specific range of facilities on cash limits.
SBI Classic and Maestro Debit Cards Maximum Limits
- ATM daily withdrawal of cash - Rs. 20000
- Online transaction - Rs. 50000
- SBI Global International Debit Card
- Daily ATM Cash withdrawal - Rs. 40000
- Online Transactions - Rs. 75000
- SBI Gold International Debit Card
- Daily ATM Cash withdrawals - Rs. 50000
- Online transaction - Rs. 200000
- SBI Platinum International Debit Card
- Daily ATM cash withdrawal - Rs. 100000
- Online transactions - Rs. 200000
- SBI Intouch Tap & Go Debit Card
- Daily ATM cash withdrawal - Rs. 40000
- Online transactions - Rs. 75000
SBI permits free up to 8 ATM transactions per month for its customers. If this is exceeded, SBI charges addition.
SBI has introduced the OTP system to check/prevent ATM maloperations. So, when using the ATM for cash withdrawal, an OTP (One-Time-Password) will be sent to the user. Only after registering this OTP, cash can be withdrawn from the ATM. This scheme has become effective from 18th September.
