The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that owing to the successive formats of low-pressure zones, there has been excess rainfall recorded in 11 places in the State of Tamil Nadu.
In this situation, the Director of the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre Balachandran has a session with the press reporters. He shared:
“It has been recorded that 20 places had very heavy rains and 50 places had heavy rains in Tamil Nadu. Until yesterday, the rainfall was lesser by 16% as compared to average expected rainfall – however, with the heavy downpour on a single day yesterday (Thursday, 3rd December) up to 14% of this shortfall has been covered!
The severe depression zone prevailing over the Bay of Mannar will transform into a low-pressure zone and as such, there are prospects of the very heavy rains persisting in the districts of Cuddalore, Nagappattinam, Thiruvarur, and Ramanathapuram.
The rains will persist for the next 2 days in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. At the same time, the northeast monsoon rainy season has intensified!”
