Rapid rise of groundwater level in 15 zones of Chennai Metro City!

Thanks to the recent copious rains due to the active northeast monsoon rainy season, the groundwater level in the 15 zones of the Chennai Metro City has risen very rapidly. A maximum rise of groundwater level up to a height of 2,66 metres within a period of a single month!
Usually, the Chennai citizens undergo sufferings from floods due to the monsoon seasonal rains from October to December and then the scorching summer between March and June and the resultant acute drinking water scarcity! This has been the ex[perience over the several last successive years! As such, the Chennai Citizens has suffered this year as well in this regard! The low-lying areas in the Chennai Metro City were submerged in the water putting the local citizens into great hardship!
This apart, the monsoon rains were nevertheless an important source for drinking water and this year, thanks to the incessant heavy downpour, all the major water reservoirs and water catchment areas have all filed up to their full capacity!
With this relieving situation, CMWSSB (Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board) has been frequently sharing this good news that there are absolutely no prospects for the shortage of drinking water in the coming summer - in this scenario, CMWSSB has shared another good news!: the groundwater level, throughout the Chennai Metro City, has gone up by a substantial height!
There has been a very rapid rise in groundwater level in the 15 zones in the Chennai Metro City in the last single month comprising of Thiruvotriyur, Manali, Madhavaram, Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar, Ambattur, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Alandur, Vaasarawakam, Kodambakkam, Perungudi, Adyar, and Sholinganallur. CMWSSB has shared this good news with the Chennai Metro City residents with all the statistical details!
Accordingly, the statistics reveal that in Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar has risen by a maximum height of up to 2.66 Metres in November as compared to October!
A minimum height in the groundwater level in the Chennai Metro City has been recorded at Sholinganallur – a height of 0.54 metres.
Though CMWSSB has already declared that there would be no shortage of drinking water, it has further announced that as the groundwater level has risen rapidly all over the city in 15 zones in the last 1 month, there would be no shortage of water for various purposes as the bore-wells/wells in residences are already full!
With this happy news, the Chennai Metro Citizens have been delighted!
