Going to the Chennai airport and finding it difficult to park your car!! This won’t be an issue in the future.
In the month of April, Chennai airport would have the capacity to house 2000 cars through the multi-level car parking facility. The AAI have informed that the majority of construction work for the multi-level car parking facility has been completed. Founded in 1995, AAI or Airport Authority of India plays a huge role in creating, upgrading, maintaining and managing civil aviation infrastructure in India.
Connecting parking lot with terminal:
It is now said that when this becomes operational then the passengers could directly walk to the domestic or international through a transit tube facility that would connect the parking lot with the terminal. The number of passengers using flights to go to domestic places has improved now.
In the month of May, the number of passengers who travelled to various domestic locations was 5000 a day and it has increased to 20000 a day now. Currently, every day there are 200 flights available for the passengers. In the coming months, the traffic would increase further.
As per an official belonging to the airport it was clear that multi-level car parking facilities at the airport would be highly beneficial for the passengers. He was of the view that by the time this facility was opened the international flights would become operational also. Early in 2019, the work for the parking lot began at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crores. The construction began over the area of 4.25 acres with two towers on either side of the airport metro station.
Information is that the present parking space could cater 1200 cars and the upcoming one would be able to cater 2000 cars. This would be enough till 2030. This was according to some officials.
Presence of retail outlets and multiplex:
It is superb to mention that apart from the additional parking space there would also be retail outlets plus multiplex. The public would be benefited by these. Out of 2 towers one would be fully for parking vehicles and the other tower would have parking space, retail outlets and multiplex.
It was later mentioned by another official that the airport authorities have been contemplating reducing the space for retail outlets and increasing the parking space due to Covid-19 pandemic. This has not been finalised as of now. It is revealed that the retail outlets and multiplex would come later.
