In future, the circulars, notices and other official communications in the educational institutions would be only in the Tamil language in TN!!

Many files and records now have excessive English words and due to this issue many complaints have been received. It is now clear directed that the higher educational institutions and even schools in TN to mandatorily use Tamil language.

Tamil language to be used in the bills, circulars, government orders, official letters, notifications among other official records. However, one more language English could be used as an option and that too in important files, documents etc to help those persons who do not know Tamil language. This was as per the Tamil Nadu Official Language Act 1956.

It is learnt that the officials received several petitions from various quarters regarding English language being used extensively especially in the colleges, universities and in some schools. It was later brought to light by a senior officer belonging to the school education department that the authorities concerned were asked through official communication to instruct all the colleges and universities to use Tamil as the main language for communication as per the ACT. Truth is that the order to sue Tamil language for communication purposes comes with immediate effect.

It is now revealed by an officer that there would be a separate panel to monitor all higher educational institutions to find out whether the majority of circulars and notifications are communicated in Tamil language. Information collected was that the institutions were instructed to issue a separate copy in Tamil language to help everyone to know about the communication. Outstation students or faculties would be communicated in English. Point is that the order to use Tamil language for communication would be applicable for the school education department. All the private schools would be given instructions to communicate in Tamil language and a separate circular would be issued to the school education department.
