Prospects for a New low-pressure zone to be formed: Chennai Regional Meteorologcial Centre

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that there are strong prospects for the prevailing cyclonic format over the Bay of Bengal to transform into a low-pressure zone in the next 48 hours.

In a notification released by the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre regarding the above, it is mentioned:

“There are prospects for mild rain in 1 or 2 places the districts of Thirunelveli, Thenkasi, Kanyakumari and the districts located around the Western Range of Mountains, and the hilly regions. A dry climate will prevail in other districts.

A dry climate will prevail in Tamil Nadu State, Puducherry, and Karaikkal from 30th March to 2nd April.

As regards the Chennai Metro City, the sky will remain clear in the next 48 hours.

As there are prospects of the land-air to blow over from the northwest direction towards the state of Tamil Nadu, the maximum temperature may shoot up by 2 to 3 Degrees Celsius in the districts of: Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Vellore, Ranippettai, Thirupathur, Thiruvallur, Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Kallakurichi, Namakkal, Karur, Trichy, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Mayiladuthurai  and Puducherry and Karaikkal.”

Rainfall in the last 24 hours:

Rainfall of 2 cm each has been recorded in the areas of Thenkasi, Bodinayakanur, Sengottai and rainfall of 1 cm has been recorded in Sooralakodu and Aayakkudi.

Warning to fishermen

There are prospects for the prevailing cyclonic format over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjacent Andaman Sea may transform into a depression zone in the next 48 hours and the further 24 hours, it may transform into an intense depression zone.

As there are prospects of high-speed winds to blow in the depression zone at South Bay of Bengal and Southeast Bay of Bengal, fishermen are warned not to venture into the sea for fishing.
