PSU banks shut counters once targets are met

Many public sector banks that offer educational loans for students set up stalls during counseling sessions for engineering and medical admissions. However, students who are attending sessions at the Anna University have found many of the counters of public sector banks closed and/ or unmanned. It has been found that the banks shut down their counters once their targets are met.

This leaves many students in need of financial help high and dry. ‘With a hope to get education loan for (my) engineering education, (I) went to the enclosure where banks had put up their stalls and was shocked to see most of the stalls empty. As I hail from poor family, my father had planned to get education loan from a public sector bank to fund my education. After counselling, we went to the bank enclosure, where six bank stalls had put up advertisements. Of the six, four have already shut shop. When the PSU banks have this attitude, think of private sector banks’, said a students from Madurai.
