Soon, the Chennai Corporation would be launching online booking of wedding halls and venues etc. It must be noted that the Chennai Corporation has been maintaining as many as 62 marriage halls, 2 AC venues for conducting non wedding events, one non-AC auditorium and open air auditorium etc. Through these, Chennai Corporation gets revenue of Rs 2 crores per annum is known.
Information is that for conducting events one day rent or half day rent has been collected by the corporation. From Rs 590 to Rs 48000 including 18% GST, wedding halls are available for the public. Point is that most wedding halls are available for less than Rs 10000 also. In Chennai, air conditioned venues maintained by the corporation would be available for a maximum rent of Rs 253000.
Before the year 2012, booking of these halls and venues were made through the zonal offices belonging to the Chennai Corporation. This led to many issues for the public. Point is that the then mayor of Chennai Corporation, Mr. Saidai Duraiswamy ordered that the booking of all wedding halls should be done only at the Corporation head office.
Now, due to the Coronavirus infection in Chennai, the provision of government services online has become more. Soon, booking of wedding halls and venues would also be available online for the public. Steps are being taken by the Chennai Corporation now to make the public book wedding halls online and pay the amount there itself. It is said that with some restrictions in the online method the irregularities would not be there.
