The Chennai doctors have stressed the importance of the regular checkups for women above the age of 30. It must be noted that a free mammogram screening had helped in identifying 12 women with symptoms of breast cancer in Chennai. The medical experts were of the view that any women showing symptoms like lumps, pain, bleeding, itchiness etc should not hesitate and they must consult the doctors immediately.
Recently, the doctors were taken by surprise when they screened more than 500 women in Chennai city. As many as 12 women had breast cancer symptoms in them.
A senior physician belonging to Kauvery hospitals in Chennai, Dr. Kavitha Sundaravadanam explained about how awareness, prevention and early diagnosis were the 3 key factors that would help in treating and overcoming breast cancer in women. She then threw light on the Coronavirus pandemic that has been responsible for many women not going for checkups. She concluded that the effort taken by the Chennai doctors regarding free mammograms was to encourage more women to get their mammogram or breast screening done. Educating the women on risk reduction and cure for breast cancer was pointed out by the doctors during screening.
Only after the breast cancer has reached stage 3 or 4 only, nearly 60% of women come to the hospitals. This was according to oncoplastic surgeon, Dr. Kirthi Katherine Kabeer belonging to Kauvery Hospitals. She hinted that every year the aim was to create awareness about breast cancer.
