On Monday, 1st November, the chief minister of TN Mr. M. K. Stalin would be opening the long delayed flyover at Vijayanagar junction for the sake of the public. This flyover would connect Taramani road and Velachery bypass is known.
It was in the year 2016 works on this 1200m flyover started. Now in 2021, the flyover has been constructed and an amount of Rs 186 crores has been spent on this. Many factors have led to this delay in the opening of the flyover at Vijayanagar junction. This was according to some officials from the state highways department. Initially, there were some issues regarding the land acquisition process.
It was in the month of June in 2020 only the state highways department got go ahead from the court as a section of people moved court. It is worthy to note that this flyover has 2-lane carriageway with a width of 7.5m and due to this just one way traffic would be allowed.
The official belonging to the state highways department spoke about how similar was the size of the second arm connecting Velachery and Pallikaranai.
It was later mentioned by a Velachery resident that for the construction of the flyover about 11500 sq ft of land was needed and the High Court had issued a stay. This has led to the delay in the opening of the flyover as the original plan to finish within 24 months fell through. The second issue was the giant sewer line from the nearby residential areas to Perungudi treatment plant as it needed to be realigned. About a year of time was taken for these to be finished and then Coronavirus Pandemic shutdown stopped the work. The superb piece of information is that by the end of this year, the second arm of the flyover connecting Velachery to Pallikaranai of 640 metres would be ready for use.
