A New low-pressure zone formed: Prospects for very heavy rain in Tamil Nadu for the next 3 days!

A new low-pressure zone has formed on Tuesday (9th November) over the Bay of Bengal. This would intensify in the next 36 hours as a deep depression zone and drift towards the Northern Tamil Nadu Coast.

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that due to this depression zone, there are prospects for heavy rains for the next 3 days in Tamil Nadu. Especially, a ‘red alert’ has been issued to the delta districts and 5 other districts for very heavy rains and a ‘Red Alert’ has been issued.

In this regard the Director of the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre S. Balachandran had a session with the press reporters and shared:

“The low-pressure zone that has formed yesterday (Tuesday, 9th November) will intensify into a deep depression zone today (Wednesday, 10th November).  This will drift towards west and northwest directions and would reach North Tamil Nadu coast on 11th November (Tomorrow, Thursday) Morning. Due to this, the prevalent northeast monsoon rainy season will intensify.

Red Alert

Accordingly, there are prospects for widespread rains for the next 3 days in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.  There are prospects for very very heavy rains in 1 or 2 places!

Especially a ‘Red Alert’ has been issued to the districts of Nagappattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Pudhukkottai, Sivagangai, and Ramanathapuram and Puducherry and Karaikkal for Wednesday (today, 10th November). As such, there are prospects for heavy rains with lightning and thunder and prospects for very heavy rains with lightning and thunder in 1 or 2 places.

Apart from this, there are prospects for heavy to very heavy rains with lightning and thunder in the districts of Thirunelveli, Thoothukkudi, Kanyakumari, Thenkasi, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur,  and Chengalpattu a few places and there are prospects for heavy rain with lightning and thunder in the districts of Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Vellore, Ranippettai, Thirupathur, Thiruvannamamalai, and Kallakurichi, There are prospects for widespread mild to medium rain in the other districts.

11th November:

A ‘Red Alert’ has been issued to the districts of Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, and Thiruvannamalai.  As per this, there are prospects for heavy to very heavy rains with lightning and thunder in a few places.

Apart from this, there are prospect’s for very heavy rains with lightning and thunder in a few places in the districts of Cuddalore, Vellore, Ranippettai, Thirupathur, Kallakurichi, Salem, Tirupur, Coioimbatore, Nilgiri, Dindigul, and Puducherry and there are prospects for heavy rains with lightning and thunder in  1 or 2 places in the delta districts, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Trichy, Ramanathapuram, Pudhukkottai, and Karaikkal. There are prospects for mild to medium rain in the other districts.

As in the present situation, the low-pressure zone is being monitored continuously! When the situation occurs for the low-pressure zone to move to another area, weather changes may happen depending on the heat level in the adjacent ocean.”
