Tiruvottriyur Theradi and Wimco Nagar Depot, 2 metro stations belonging to the Chennai Metro phase-1 extension project would soon be inaugurated. In the next week, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety or CMRS would be inspecting these 2 metro stations in north Chennai. Point to be noted is that once CMRS gives clearance these 2 metro stations would become operational. Checking of safety aspects needed to allow passenger traffic would be carried out by CMRS. This was mentioned by an official belonging to CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited.
Documents having the technical parameters of these 2 metro stations were sent to CMRS last week is known. The parameters included the construction of the stations plus signalling, telecom etc.
The official later spoke about how additional information was sought out and that has been provided by CMRL and how inspection would be carried out in the next week.
In the normal circumstances when all the facilities adhere to the norms and everything is okay, CMRS would issue a certificate after a couple of days of inspection. When any work is pending a conditional certificate is issued by CMRS requesting CMRL to complete the work. Finally, a safety certificate would be issued by CMRS and after that the metro station could be opened for the public.
It must not be forgotten that at around the same time in 2021 9km Washermanpet- Wimco Nagar Phase 1 work was inaugurated. The contractors were constructing the Thiruvottiyur- Theradi station and the metro trains have been skipping the stop is known.
