Important information about the community halls booking in Chennai!!

It is known that Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC has decentralised the booking process of the community halls present in Chennai. Now, GCC has started a discussion to make the booking procedure of these community halls fully online. Few issues must be sorted out before GCC would take a decision regarding booking of the community halls by online method. This was according to an official belonging to GCC.
Bulk booking is being given importance now and this must be avoided. For that, GCC is trying to make the online process in such a way that would put an end to bulk booking. The official then mentioned about the hassle free payment and refund mechanisms etc. It must be taken into note that at present the Chennai residents could only check whether the community halls have been booked already or vacant before going to the counters physically.
The process that was followed for many years was that influential persons in each area would book the community halls in bulk and later they would rent the halls to event organisers at a higher rate. Point is that bulk booking was prevented after insisting on the certificates and documents for booking. It must not be forgotten that in 2021 GCC made news when it adopted a procedure decentralising the booking process so that the residents would be able to book these halls at the zonal offices.
Previously, Chennai residents went to Ripon Buildings to book the community halls is known. It is worthy to mention here that the community halls could be booked 6 months in advance from the date of function. From January onwards, a decentralising system of booking community halls came into effect.
There are as many as 33 community halls out of total 62 in the central region in Chennai. Northern region has 15 community halls and the southern region has 14 community halls. The civic body also maintains 3 auditoriums in Chennai.
Street rate of property tax and size of the community halls are the factors that decide the charges of these community halls and GCC collects the charges from the users.
