As there is a mandatory need for a second airport in all Metro Cities in India, the central Minister for Aviation, Jyothiradhithya Scindia, had recently informed that the Ministry is categorically decided about the setting up of the second airport in the Chennai Metro and City!
The Minister for Aviation further informed that the second airport for the capital Metro City Delih is being constructed at Jiwar near Delhi for Rs. 38000 Crores. Also, the second airport in the Mumbai Metro City is being constructed in Navi Mumbai for Rs. 17000 Crores! The Minister added that similarly, the construction of the second airport in Chennai Metro City is planned!
The Minister informed that the Tamil Nadu State Ministry for Aviation has recommended 4 locations for this purpose to the Central Mistry of Aviation which selected 2 places out of the 4 recommended and is awaiting a response from the State Government of Tamil Nadu.
Subsequently, the question arose about which location would be the Chennai Metro City Airport!
Given the above status on this issue, a review meeting on this is being scheduled for tomorrow (Friday, 16th June).
The Tamil Nadu State Minister for Industry, Thangam Thennarasu, is scheduled to meet the Central Aviation Minister Jyothiraditya Scindia in Delhi tomorrow (16th June) and review.
The government officials are also participating in this review meeting! With 2 places being finalized – Pannur & Parandhur – it is learnt that prospects for selection of Pannur are better! However, the final decision will be taken during tomorrow’s review meeting to finalize the selection of the location of the second airport in the Chennai Metro City!!
