The scorching heat has gone now and the residents belonging to Chennai are feeling happy now. Sunday was simply superb because Chennai received its first spell of thunderstorms for SW monsoon on that day. The roads in Chennai had water logging and there was a good inflow into the reservoirs.
The sensational piece of information is that this was the highest amount of rainfall recorded on a single day in Chennai in the last decade. It must be taken into note that Nungambakkam received 8cms of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8am on Monday. The monthly quota of rainfall for a single month in Chennai is 5.6cm but Chennai received more rainfall than this monthly quota of rainfall.
On 8th June 2016, Chennai received 5.3cms of rainfall and till now this has been the highest rainfall recorded for a single day in June. Previously in 1996, Chennai received 35cms of rainfall on 14th of June and it grabbed many eyeballs is known.
There were rains in Chennai and rains were recorded by several weather stations in and around Chennai on Monday. In Chennai, west Tambaram received 13cm of rainfall and this was followed by Taramani and Kolathur with 8cm of rain. There was 9cm of rain at Chennai airport.
