Latest on the reconstruction work at Anna Centenary Library in Chennai!!

Established in the year 2010, Anna Centenary library in Kotturpuram in Chennai was constructed at a cost of Rs 172 crores and is the second biggest library in Asia. Reconstruction works have been going on here is well known.

Yesterday, 2nd September 2022, minister for public works Mr. A.V. Velu made his presence felt in this library. Other important persons who were present were Mr. K. Manivasan, public works department secretary, Mr. R. Viswanath, principal chief engineer and Mr. Selvakumar, joint director, School Education Department.

The minister Mr. Velu spoke about how the second largest library in Asia was constructed in the regime of former chief minister of TN Mr. M. Karunanidhi. He added that the wife of former president of USA Hillary Clinton visited this library and was amazed by the vast collection of books. The TN government did not take proper care of this library later on and due to that the library was in bad condition.

It is worth mentioning that in 2021 an amount of Rs 32.49 crores was allocated for the library`s maintenance work. This was as per the order from the CM of Tamil Nadu Mr. M.K Stalin. By this month`s end, the maintenance work would be completed. The faulty generator here has been removed and a new generator with high power has been installed

It must be noted that on the 7th floor in this Anna Centenary Library prints of Silapathikaram, Manimegalai, Kundalakesi,Sseevagasinthamani, Valayapathi etc have been preserved. Using the latest technology, digitization of these manuscripts is going on. Cleaning work is on.
