The partial solar eclipse can be seen today (Tuesday, 25th October) at Chennai Metro City from 5.12 PM to 5.14 PM.
Eclipses occur during the periods when the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth fall in a straight line. In other words, the shadow of the Moon falls on the Sun and this is known as Solar Eclipse. When the shadow of the Earth falls on the Moon, it is known as Lunar Eclipse!
Generally, up to 4 eclipses occur every year! As such, when the moon`s shadow covers the Sun fully, it is a full solar eclipse and when the shadow of the Moon covers the Sun partly, it is known as a partial solar eclipse!
As such, today (Tuesday, 25th October, the next day after the Deepavali festival), a partial solar eclipse is set to occur.
In this regard, the Tamil Nadu Periyar Science and Technology Centre officials shared:
On a world level, a solar eclipse is scheduled to commence at 2.19 PM and will be till 6.32 PM.
This partial solar eclipse can be seen in the southern parts of Russia, Kazakhstan, European Countries, North Africa, Central Eastern countries and in some parts of Asia! During this period, NOE THAT THERE WOULD BE NO FULL SOLAR ECLIPSE ANYWHERE!
A MAXIMUM OF 80% ECLIPSE (the Moon`s shadow covering the Sun) can be seen only in the central parts of Russia!
As regards the State of Tamil Nadu, in Chennai, the partial solar eclipse can be seen at sunset time, from 5.14 PM to 5.44 PM. During this period, only 8% will be covered by the moon`s shadow! This can be seen in the western cities of India as well!
ALERT :
THE PUBLIC MUST NOT SEE THE ECLIPSE WITH THE NAKED EYE! ALSO, THE PUBLIC MUST SEE THE ECLIPSE THROUGH TELESCOPES OR FILM ROLLS! ONLY AFTER WEARING SPECIAL SUNGLASSES WHICH REDUCE THE INTENSITY OF SULINGHT AND ALSO ONLY THE MIRROR OF THE SUN ON A WHITE SCREEN REFLECTED SURFACE! THIS IS IMPORTANT!
SUBSEQUENTLY, A FULL LUNAR ECLIPSE IS SET TO OCCUR ON 8TH NOVEMBER. HOWEVER, THIS CAN BE SEEN IN TAMIL NADU AS A PARTIAL LUNAR ECLIPSE ONLY, THAT TOO, ONLY FOR A FEW MINUTES!"
