It took 2 months for the fishermen to catch huge tonnes of fishes at the famous Kasimedu fishing harbour in Chennai. This is now making many heads turn.
On Sunday yesterday, the fishing harbour witnessed a great catch with 50 tonnes of fish being stocked here. The fishermen landed here on 30 boats. Out of the 30 boats as many as 18 boats were deep sea fishing boats and the rest were smaller boats. This was mentioned by an officer from the fisheries department.
He added that more than 1500 boats both deep sea fishing boats and those going for one or 2 days fishing, reached the harbour yesterday.
Assorted varieties of fishes like white vaaval plus white prawns and big sized crabs were brought by the combination of these boats yesterday. As the fishes like vaaval, vajiram and kanangeluthi were most sought after by many they were priced high.
It was brought to light by a fish vendor at the fishing harbour that fishes like podi navrai and large sized crabs were sought after much by fish eaters. In the wholesale market, naravai was priced at Rs 1800 and in the retail market it was sold for Rs 180 per kilo.
