Many residential areas present near the water bodies inside the limits of GCC might be safe from flooding this time in the monsoon season as WRD has begun releasing water from eight lakes. These 8 lakes are Korattur Lake, Madhavaram Lake, Kolathur Lake, Porur Lake, Ambattur Lake, Ayapakkam Lake, Paruthipattu Lake and Thiruninravur Lake etc. While maintaining a level according to the prescribed SOP, water would be released at frequent intervals. The assistant engineers belonging to GCC have already received instructions regarding this.
It is learnt that the executive engineers have been given the authority to decide the water level that needs to be maintained as per the rain forecast for the NE monsoon season.
Porur Lake:
On Monday, the water levels stood at 14.3m in the Porur Lake and it is brought out that the water level might touch 14.6m by 30th November, and by 15th December the water level might touch 14.9m and by 31st December the water level might touch 15.5m.
Kolathur Lake:
In the same period, the water level in the Kolathur Lake would range from 7.4m to 8.6m
Madhavaram Lake:
The Madhavaram Lake would maintain water levels from 6.2m to 7.4m.
Korattur Lake:
In the NE monsoon season, the water level at Korattur Lake would be maintained from 10m to 11.2m. Truth is that these are non- anaicut tanks with shutters.
There are also non-anaicut lakes or tanks without shutters like Ambattur, Ayapakkam, Paruthipattu and Thirunindavur in Chennai.
Ambattur Lake:
It was pointed out by engineers that the water level of 15.6m to 16.9m would be maintained in the Ambattur Lake.
Ayapakkam Lake:
From 16.8m to 18m, water level would be maintained here.
Paruthipattu Lake:
On Monday, water level of 22m was maintained here.
Thiruninravur Lake:
The water level would be maintained from 31m to 32.6m in this lake.
