Come winter, come the diseases!!
The winter season is always associated with various health issues or diseases like cold, sore throat, flu, asthma attacks etc. Some people would also get dry, flaky and cracked legs. As a result, these people would find it difficult to walk freely. It must be noted that the dry cracked legs problem might come and go in the winters but it would cause pain and discomfort. Bitter truth is that the importance we give for our face is more than the importance we give for our legs.
In the winter season, the absence of moisture in the air could result in dry flaky cracked legs. The low humidity levels has been cited as the cause for the lack of moisture in the air. There are also other reasons for dry scaly legs like cool air, brisk winds and dry indoor heat etc. We must give special attention to our legs in the winter season.
Various ways by which we would be able to tackle the dry legs problem in winters are
By moisturizing legs after taking bath:
After taking bath or washing our legs in winters, we must moisturise our legs with moisturisers etc without fail. When we wash our legs, the natural oils present in the skin would get lost. It is known that the natural oils would be responsible for retaining the moisture. Moisturizing creams would be able to compensate for the loss.
By bathing for shorter time:
For retaining the skin moisture, it is essential that we must take shorter baths in the winters. It is believed that by bathing for a long time would make the skin lose its moisture and this would lead to dry flaky legs.
By bathing in lukewarm water instead of hot water:
Hot water could wash away the natural oils present in the skin and therefore we must take bath in only lukewarm water and not in hot water. The dirt present in our skin would get removed easily with lukewarm water. The oil balance of skin would not get affected by this.
By using sunscreens often:
There is a misconception that sunscreens must be used only in the summer seasons . Truth is that sunscreens must also be used in winters too. It is learnt that even in the winter season the harmful UV radiation could stress the skin moisture barrier.
By staying hydrated:
In the winter season, we would be able to prevent dry flaky legs by drinking lots of water or staying hydrated. By this, the skin would also be smooth and fresh. Truth is that we must be conscious of our skin health and take proper care. This would prevent us from getting dry legs.
