A peculiar civic issue has now caught the attention of many near the arterial Gandhi-Irwin Road near the Egmore railway station in Chennai. Here, there are 3 dustbins placed in the middle of the road and this has been causing many issues for the commuters and many rail passengers.

Not only a heritage site, but Egmore railway station is also an important centre linking Chennai and many southern districts. In the rainy season, the presence of 3 dustbins in the middle of the road has been a nuisance. This was mentioned by some office goers. It is a known fact that many office goers use Egmore railway station to board the suburban trains.

In addition, car drivers as well as motorists are also unhappy now regarding the 3 huge dustbins kept in the middle of the road. It must be noted that recently there were complaints regarding locked public toilets here but the civic body people have attended to this issue. Now, the 3 bins and open urination near the Egmore station is a big issue and an eye sore.

It was brought out by a local officer from the corporation that the dust bins must be near the platform. He added that they were in almost half of the road just because it was the parking space which cannot be avoided. He mentioned that the auto drivers push these dustbins to the roads to park their autos in the vacant area.

Point is that it would not be possible for the persons who clean the garbage daily to keep a strict vigil on the dustbins all the time. The traffic gets affected here because the dust bins get placed in the middle of the road. The local official later assured that this issue would be looked into and a solution would be provided.
