By the end of the month of February, it is likely that the new skywalk would be opened for the public at T.Nagar in Chennai. It is a well known fact that T. Nagar is the largest commercial area in Chennai and lakhs of people come here and go leading to heavy traffic congestion. Three years ago, to decongest T. Nagar, the work regarding constructing a skywalk began here at a cost of Rs 30 crores.
To provide a link between T. Nagar railway station and bus stand, a 600m long 4m wide skywalk is being built here. The Coronavirus pandemic infection has led to the stoppage of the skywalk construction works. The flyover works were speeded up in 2022 as the Coronavirus pandemic was brought under control.
The work regarding the construction of an electric lift has been going on now and it will get over in the next week. This was according to GCC officials. The skywalk would be of superb use for many people who come to T. Nagar everyday. To help the differently abled people, wheelchair access would also be provided. These differently able persons would be able to use lifts and use the wheelchair over the skywalk. The officials revealed that they have been considering opening the skywalk by the end of the month.
It is now brought to light that once the skywalk gets opened then measures would be taken to prevent the street vendors encroaching the road and the GCC officials would be monitoring every day.
