These days, the coffers of GCC have been filling up with huge money!!
As tax revenue, GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation has now collected a huge amount of Rs 2044 crores for the financial year 2022-23. This is the highest ever amount GCC has collected.
In the current financial year, GCC would be preparing GIS or Geographic Information System for all the properties across Chennai. The 2022-23 FY tax collection amount has been revealed by GCC and Rs 2044 crores has been collected as property and professional tax. An amount of Rs 1500cr was fixed as the property tax target but GCC collected Rs 1522.86 crores.
It must be recalled that on 31st March 2023 alone, Rs 50 cr plus was collected from the property owners in Chennai. An amount of Rs 521.74 cr was collected as professional tax against the fixed target of Rs 500 crores. It is noteworthy that in the FY 2021-22 an amount of Rs 1240.42 cr was collected in Chennai out of that Rs 778.07 cr was property tax amount and Rs 462.35 cr was professional tax amount.
An amount of Rs 959.34 cr was collected as tax amount for the FY 2020-21 out of that Rs 471.66 cr was the property tax amount. Point is that for the FY 2018-19 Rs 979 cr was collected by GCC and that was the previous higher amount collected.
An amount of Rs 305 cr was collected from the property owners belonging and Rs 106.21 as professional tax amount belonging to the Teynampet zone and this was the highest among the 15 zones in Chennai.
It was brought out by Mr. Chittibabu, revenue officer from RD of GCC that the highest collected was witnessed in the last FY. He added that there are still atleast 100 defaulters of property tax in Chennai.
