During the daytime, there are cloudy skies and in the evenings there are thunderstorms in Chennai. Everything has been set ready for superb rains but has the rain that was forecast arrived in the city??

Instead of rain, the weather in Chennai has been hot and sweaty. It is noteworthy that the convergence of opposing winds from west and east or trough falling over interior parts of Tamil Nadu  were responsible for lack of rains in the city. This has led to the presence of intermittent rains in the suburbs but close to the coast remained dry. This was due to the fact that the incoming easterlies that travelled towards the convergence area over the interior region.

In Chennai and its suburbs, rainfall and thunderstorms  etc have been predicted by some weathermen but as per some private bloggers rains might skip Chennai and go to interiors.

It was mentioned by IMD that a cyc;onic circulation lies over south Tamil Nadu and neighbourhood areas extending up to 0.9km above mean sea level. As per an official from IMD, a trough runs from the cyclonic circulation over central MP to the cyclonic circulation over south interior TN and neighbourhood acrss interior Maharashtra and interior Karnataka at 0.9km above mean sea level.

There was some thunder in some parts of Chennai on Sunday but the rains were restricted to the neighbouring and interior districts only.

The trough has been the reason for rainfall in Tamil Nadu and it might continue to bring rains for 2 to 3 days and then there might be a drop in the intensity. This was highlighted by Mr. Mahesh Palawat, chief meteorologist of Skymet Weather. As the storms moved away from Chennai, the city also missed rains during early Monday morning. This was mentioned by famous weather blogger Mr. Pradeep john.
