It was mentioned by the meteorological department that a low pressure area is likely to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal on 8th May 2023. For the next 2 days, there would be light to moderate rains with thunder and lightning in most places in TN, Puducherry and Karaikal.
It was explained by Mr. S. Balachnadran, director or RMC in Chennai, that in the lower layers of upper atmosphere in south India there is an area where east winds and west winds meet. It must be noted that due to the accumulation of moisture in air the moisture in lands has increased.
In the last 24 hours, as manya s 60 places in TN received heavy rains and 13 places have received very heavy rains. Vanamadevi in Cuddalore district received a maximum of 19cms of rain followed by 17cm of rain in Sankaridurg in Salem district. He threw light on how for the next 2 days, TN, Puducherry and Karaikal would receive light to moderate rains with thunder and lightning at most places. There are chances of heavy to very heavy rains from Nilgris to Theni districts along the Western Ghats at a few places. There are chances of heavy rains in one or two places in districts like Trichy, Namakkal, Salem, Karur, inner districts, delta districts etc.
Today, 3rd May, Chennai and its suburbs would be cloudy and there are chances of light to moderate rains in one or two places.
