No more overcrowding at the Chennai govt hospitals- Quality medical services to be available near the residences!!

The issue of going to government hospitals and waiting in the long queue etc to get treatment would soon become a thing of the past! !

The news is that the CM of TN Mr. MK. Stalin inaugurated 500 Urban health centres of UHC yesterday through video conferencing. An amount of Rs 125 crores has been spent on this. The initial cost of each UHC is RsS 25 lakhs. At the Vijayaraghava Road in Teynampet, an UHC was inaugurated by the chief minister.

Earlier, a mega scheme was announced by the state health dept to set up 708 urban health centres in 21 municipal corporations and in 63 municipal areas including GCC. The announcement regarding setting up of UHC was made by taking into account factors like overcrowding at the govt hospitals, providing integrated quality medical services near the residences etc.

It is learnt that in the first phase, 500 UHC have been set up in the municipal corporation and in the Chennai municipal corporation areas.

The urban health centre would have 500 doctors, 500 nurses, 500 health inspectors, 500 sanitation workers etc.

Operating time for the UHCs:

The UHC would function from 8am in the morning till 12 pm in the noon and again from 4pm in the evening to 8pm in the night.  About 25000 people would benefit from each UHC. It is now said that the UHC would provide the residents maternity health services, child welfare services and other medical services etc.

Several benefits from UHCs:

It is learnt that each UHC would provide the residents family planning services, treatment for infectious and communicable diseases, ENT, dental and mental health based services etc. Acting as a sub centre for Urban Primary Health Centres or UPHC, the residents would be able to get all essential primary health care services near their residences.
