Heavy Rains Expected in Tamil Nadu till Thursday Due to Cyclonic Circulation over Bay of Bengal

Several parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to witness heavy rainfall till Thursday as a result of the cyclonic circulation prevailing over the Bay of Bengal. The wet weather brought relief from the scorching heat in places like Madurai and Chennai on Monday. While Karur Paramathi and Erode recorded the highest temperatures of the day at 38.5 degrees Celsius and 38 degrees Celsius respectively.
Recent rainfall measurements show Valparai receiving 6 cm of rain, while Kodaikanal and Periakulam in Theni district received 2 cm. Light rain was recorded in areas like Chennai, Karaikal, and Yercaud until 7:30 p.m.
S. Balachandran, Additional Director General of Meteorology in Chennai, explained that the prevailing weather system and strong westerly winds are expected to trigger thunderstorms.
Moreover, the southwest monsoon has already covered the entire country, making an early arrival by six days. The strengthening monsoon current will bring rain over adjoining western ghats districts in Tamil Nadu this week. Since June 1, Tamil Nadu has received an overall rainfall of 6 cm, which is considered normal for the season.
Balachandran further stated that the Nilgiris and Coimbatore regions are likely to experience very heavy rainfall. Seven districts, including Madurai, Tenkasi, and Tirunelveli, may receive heavy rain in one or two places on Tuesday. This weather pattern is anticipated to continue until July 6, following which there may be a decline in rainfall.
As for Chennai, the city can expect relatively clement weather with light or moderate rain in some areas and a daytime temperature of 34 degrees Celsius for the next two days.
