The Tamil Nadu government has recently announced the eligibility criteria for women heads of families to apply for the monthly financial assistance scheme, `Magalir Urimai Thogai.` The scheme, which has been allocated Rs 7000 crores in this year`s budget, is a flagship initiative of the DMK party. However, certain conditions have been put in place to determine who can benefit from the program.

To be eligible for the scheme, women heads of families must fulfill specific requirements. Firstly, if an individual owns a car, they automatically become ineligible to avail the benefits. Additionally, women with an annual family income exceeding Rs 2.5 lakhs, power usage above 3,600 units, possession of five acres of land, or holding a membership in the assembly or parliament, are also excluded from the scheme. The government believes that implementing either or all of the aforementioned criteria will help filter out beneficiaries and ensure the assistance reaches those in need.

In order to apply for the `Magalir Urimai Thogai` scheme, women are required to visit the Public Distribution System (PDS) shop where their ration cards are registered. The application process will be facilitated at these locations, providing an accessible and convenient way for eligible individuals to enroll in the program.

As the application process commences, eligible women heads of families are encouraged to apply for the scheme at their respective PDS shops. The Tamil Nadu government remains committed to providing support and empowerment to women, recognizing their pivotal role in society and their immense potential to drive progress and development.
