The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in nine districts of Tamil Nadu, including Trichy and Madurai, today. This weather pattern is attributed to a low atmospheric circulation over the region.
According to P. Senthamaraikannan, the Director of the Chennai Meteorological Center, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected in some areas on August 30, 31, and September 1. Additionally, there may be light to moderate rainfall at a few places on September 3 and 4.
Specifically, heavy rain is anticipated in one or two places within Thanjavur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Sivagangai, Trichy, Dindigul, Theni, and Madurai districts today.
Chennai and its surrounding areas are expected to remain partly cloudy over the next 48 hours, with some parts of the city likely to experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. The maximum temperature is forecasted to be around 99 degrees Fahrenheit, while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 79 degrees Fahrenheit.
Regarding recent rainfall, the highest recorded amount in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on August 28th was 9 cm in Shankarapuram, Kallakurichi district. Moonkilthurai received 8 cm, Senchi in Villupuram district, Tindivanam, and Kalayanallur in Kallakurichi district received 7 cm each.
