Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority or CUMTA would be preparing a revised transport road map for the next 25 years. For this purpose, the Chennai residents` travel behaviour would be mapped with the help of new software.
It is now said that Systra, a consultant appointed by CUMTA, would be developing a transport model that would integrate household activities, land use patterns, traffic flow and regional demographics etc. In response to the economic conditions, facilities, resident and employment location etc, the new model would be able to estimate travel behaviour of the residents.
Development of 4 stage transport demand model:
Information collected is that the consultant would be playing a huge role in the development of a four stage transport demand model with the help of Vissum. This Vissum is one of the world`s leading transport planning software. The data collected from the primary surveys and secondary resources for the entire CMA of 5904km would be used to develop the model.
It is learnt that the software would be capable of multi modal split, transit assignment and assessing variations in speed and frequency due to changes in the overall traffic volume. In addition, impact of new land developments and control policies etc would be reflected.
