Chennai Meteorological Department Predicts Six More Days of Rain

The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued a weather forecast indicating the likelihood of light to moderate rain for the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry regions over the course of the next six days, starting from Monday. This forecast comes as a result of variable westerly winds affecting the area.

Here are the key details from the meteorological department`s notification:

1. Rain Forecast:
  • Regions Affected: Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
  • Duration: Monday to Saturday (September 11-16).
  • Expected Conditions: Light to moderate rain with the possibility of thunder and lightning at isolated locations.

2. Chennai and Puducherry:
  • Over the next 24 hours, the skies in Chennai and Puducherry are expected to remain partly cloudy.
  • There is a chance of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in some parts of both cities.

3. Recorded Rainfall (as of Sunday morning):
  • Thirukovilur (Kallakurichi) and Venkur (Kallakurichi) recorded 50 mm of rainfall each.
  • Thiruppalapandal (Kallakurichi) and Madhaboondi (Kallakurichi) recorded 40 mm each.

4. Warning for Fishermen:
  • On Monday (September 11), coastal areas in South Tamil Nadu, the Gulf of Mannar, and the adjoining Kumari Sea area experienced cyclonic winds at speeds of up to 65 km per hour.
  • Cyclonic winds at a similar speed have been reported in the Sri Lankan coastal areas and the adjoining South West Bay of Bengal, with the potential for further intensification.
