The healthcare facilities and local administration are getting ready now to handle the surge in the numbers of fever cases in Chennai and across Tamil Nadu. There are many fever cases like dengue, typhoid, influenza etc now getting reported in the hospitals in the city. Patients are flooding the Chennai hospitals now.
Currently, about one third of the total cases in ICH Egmore in Chennai are fever cases only. Many dengue cases are being reported in RGGGH and KMCH in Chennai. In the last 2 days alone, more than 30 people have been admitted to the GH in Tambaram in south Chennai with dengue fever. There are many cases of viral fever and this is shown by the growing queues at GH in Tambaram and in Kancheepuram.
The situation is under control but the government hospitals are witnessing a surge in the fever cases of all types now. This was mentioned by Mr. M. Subramanian, health minister. He threw light about the death of 3 persons who had died in the last 9 months due to dengue fever. He concluded that steps were taken through local bodies to prevent mosquitoes from breeding. It is noteworthy that before the onset of monsoon fever cases surge every year.
