In a press release issued by P. Senthamaraik Kannan, the Director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre, it has been revealed that due to a low atmospheric circulation pattern over Tamil Nadu, regions including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are likely to experience varying degrees of rainfall in the coming days.
Here`s the weather outlook as per the release:
- October 10th and 11th: Expect light to moderate rainfall at a few locations, accompanied by thunder and lightning.
- October 12th: Anticipate similar conditions, with rain at a couple of places.
- October 13th to 15th: Look for light to moderate rainfall at a few places.
On October 10th, heavy rain was reported at isolated spots in hilly areas across several districts, including Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur, Erode, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Trichy, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Dindigul, Madurai, and Theni. On October 11th, heavy rainfall is expected to continue in these districts, except for Tirupattur, Vellore, and Trichy.
Meanwhile, Chennai and its surrounding areas can expect partly cloudy skies over the next 48 hours. Some parts of the city may experience light to moderate rainfall, often accompanied by thunder and lightning.
The press release also noted the following recent rainfall statistics for the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on October 9th:
- Valparai in Coimbatore district recorded the highest rainfall at 6 cm.
- Kodaikanal in Dindigul district received 5 cm of rainfall.
- Alagarai Estate in Nilgiris district, Coonoor, and Chinnakallar in Coimbatore district (Nilgiris) each reported 4 cm of rainfall.
